Lori T asked: I was advised to get errors and omissions insurance or quit my job- so I called Insurance companies and they don’t have it. i searched on the web. I was filling out paperwork for a quote but was asked on the form how many employees I had and so on. i’m just not finding what I need. Thanks in advance.:)
Ok I just found an insurance co that handles that and the quote was 1,800 a year …I only earn 20k. i can’t afford the insurance. geez…. I was thinking around 40$ a month??
wow– I just saw my tax return. I guess I earned 19k last year. I work about 50 hours a week– Case Management is just not the greatest gig here in Michigan. Yet these are the wages I agreed to. ah well *sigh*

sweet asked: I just received a quote from a bathtub linning company. When I asked for identification such as the permit to do the work the sale rep said it wasn’t required. I’m thinking this just can’t be possible what are your thoughts on this?

Just the facts asked: I have 2 ac units for my house - one upstairs and one downstairs. My contractor tells me that one of the units needs to be replaced and quoted me $6k. Is this reasonable? Sounds awfully expensive. Any thoughts?

hls12002 asked: I just had an estimate done and I was quoted a price based on 1 zone. The contractor told me that my house did not need 2 zones. I thought all houses needed at least 2 zones.

Monica S asked: I currently have a 42″ door and the quote is to replace it with a 36″ flat slab (no glass/no panels) paint grade door with a 20″ sidelight. The quote included patching the stucco, installing a new 5′ header and the materials. Seems high to me but would love feedback from contractors/carpenters. We are in Los Angeles (I know, prices are higher right?). Thanks!

Philip L asked: i am deciding whether to hire this unlicensed contractor to do a remodel project in my home (adding a half-bath and changing the stairs). he has many good references. and he actually has done a fireplace remodel for me and i was very satisfied with his work and attitude. his quote for our project is much lower than other licensed contractors’. i also called the general contractor he used to work with and he gave him very good comments and told me that he is capable to do the work that i want to do. he seems like the guy i can trust, but the only thing is that he is unlicensed. he also said he can put it in contract that i will not be liable if he or his helpers sustain injuries on the job.
so should i go with this unlicensed contractor? is there anything else i should put in the contract to protect myself? also will there be any problem in obtaining permit (in CA)? i heard as long as i pass the inspections, anyone can do the job.
thanks
i am deciding whether to hire this unlicensed contractor to do a remodel project in my home (adding a half-bath and changing the stairs). i had hired a firm to do the drawings with all the details so getting the permit and passing the codes should not be a problem. i just need someone to follow the drawings and make sure it passed the inspections. he has many good references. and he actually has done a fireplace remodel for me and i was very satisfied with his work and attitude. his quote for our project is much lower than other licensed contractors’. i also called the general contractor he used to work with and he gave him very good comments and told me that he is capable to do the work that i want to do. he seems like the guy i can trust, but the only thing is that he is unlicensed. he also said he can put it in contract that i will not be liable if he or his helpers sustain injuries on the job.

Here I come asked: I got a quote from a concrete contractor who is proposing to pour 2500 psi concrete to form my garage floor and driveway (about 1,000 sq. ft. total combined area). My question, is 2500 psi strong enough or should I request a stronger grade? They’re planning to add rebar for added strength.
The quotes were based on 4″ thickness (seems to be the typical for So. Calif.) just parking two sedans, no extra heavy vehicle types. garage floor is 21′ x 20′, and driveway is 21′ x 30′. I received quotes ranging from $6 to $8. so 2,500 psi is adequate?
